WIP Wednesday: Porthos Socks

Normally, I’m not a fan of pooling. In fact, I started my Vintage Office Socks three times before I found a combination of stitches/inch and needle size that gave me irregular stripes. This time, though, I’m digging the way the pooling curls around these socks in combination with the pattern’s curvy vertical lines.

Where do you stand on the pooling continuum — love or hate?

  1. I love the colors in your yarn and what a great sock! Pooling really is a love hate relationship. For me it depends upon how much of a distraction it causes – where ones eye focuses and nothing else is seen. That is the downside of using hand dyed yarns at times.

  2. I agree with Tina–it’s all about context. I have a sweater that I knitted in Malabrigo and the pooling drove me nuts. It works here, though–looks totally intentional. Love the stuff you’ve been doing lately!

  3. I typically am infuriated by pooling. I’ve even started trying to buy semi-solid (or striped, I love striped) yarn because I can’t handle the pooling. Control issues? 🙂
